Hi my name is Sera and I need your help! I am a 23 year old nonbinary transmasculine person. This means that while I don’t identify as a man or a woman, I am transitioning to become more masculine. I’ve been on hormones for 6 months and I am ready for the next step in my transition. I work part time and make minimum wage and I’m also a full-time student. While my parents support me in a lot of ways, they do not support my transition and have disagreed to help me with the financial aspects of my transition. Currently, the surgery is $7100, and I’ve saved up $4200, so I need help coming up with the rest of the money. I am still looking for doctors who offer a lower price, but haven’t found one yet. Right now I live in Orlando and this is where my preferred surgeon is. In 8 months, I might be moving to Gainesville or even out of state to attend grad school. Ideally, I would like to be able to get the surgery before I move. If I do not have the funds by then, Orlando isn’t too far of a drive from Gainesville. If I move out of state, it will make things a little more complicated. I have worn a binder almost everyday for the past 2-3 years. While I wear a safe binder that is my correct size, it can still be very painful and some of my shoulder problems may be due to binding. Unfortunately I cannot afford physical therapy, either, to help heal my shoulder injury. Top surgery would relieve a lot of stress in my life. Not only will it help my body start to heal, but it will help me start to heal on an emotional level. Top surgery will allow me to live freely, something that right now I can only dream of.
